New HHHorizons pt.2 w/ Mikatsiu

17:30 20-10-2023
During ADE 2023, Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee is collaborating with Het HEM and Horst Arts & Music Festival on two evenings of interdisciplinary live performances at the Thomaskerk, called New HHHorizons. On both Thursday 19 October and Friday 20 October, Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee opens proceedings with a free two-hour programme. For each evening, founders Arif Kornweitz and Radna Rumping have prepared a listening session, introducing (excerpts of) sound works from their archive - during the listening session visitors are invited to move through the brutalist church building freely. Following this will be a live performance by one of our Spring 2023 artists in residence.
<< Update: due to illness, Mikatsiu is unfortunately not able to perform live. Instead, a recording of their work will be played in the space.>>
2023 resident Mikatsiu presents ‘This Ineluctable Opera - Variation 2’, an expanded version of a first iteration recorded as an outcome of their residency. Mikatsiu’s research during the Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee residency focused on remote sensing, consideration of the different communication abilities of dancing spiders, questioning what is needed to sense the detached regions of one’s own body, and tuning enunciation towards melodies as they unravel stories into perceivable frequencies.
Please note that this event is in-person only and will not be broadcast.
Mika Hayashi Ebbesen, aka Mikatsiu, is a queer Japanese-Norwegian artist who identifies as a frequency witch and works in the independent arts publishing sector as an editor. Projects as a performer and composer over the past decade stem from a life-long interest in physical and sonic choreography; their curiosity is centred around investigating the ever-evolving social relationships woven between archives and practices of attunement.
