On November 14, Radio Alhara (Bethlehem), JaJaJaNeeNeeNee (Amsterdam), and Radio Panik (Brussels) will jointly broadcast Inas Halabi’s sound piece The Right of Return (Haqq al-‘Awda - حق العودة).

The work is part of the exhibition All That Remains كي لا ننسى (Kay La Nansa) by Inas Halabi, currently on view at La Loge in Brussels until November 30.

The sound piece is composed of field recordings captured on the sites of twenty-four Palestinian villages that were demolished and ethnically cleansed by the Zionist regime in 1948 to establish the State of Israel. The recordings open with an a cappella performance of the song مريم (Maryam) by Reem Talhami, and are interwoven with traditional Palestinian folklore songs performed by the El-Funoun Palestinian Popular Dance Troupe, including يا زارعين السمسم – Ya Zar‘een al-Simsim (Oh Sesame Planters), ليّا وليّا يا بنية – Laiya wa Laiya ya Bniyyeh (Layya oh Layya, Oh Young Girl) , and يا واردة عالنبع – Ya Warida al Nabe’ (Oh Girl Heading to the Spring).

The Right of Return (Haqq al-‘Awda - حق العودة) is supported by Sharjah Art Foundation, Amarte Foundation, and Mondriaan Fonds.
